The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Announce a Latest Divinity, Declaring it Their Largest RPG to Date

The buzz around this year's gaming ceremony was significant, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious image of a strange statue. The question has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is working on a brand-new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal descent into chaos.

Not the Expected Sequel

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio warned that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.

Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This phrasing hints that the team might be crafting a more action-oriented experience instead of another tactical title. Currently, this is speculation, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it pioneered the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—traits that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is familiar fare, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust given to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of specialized paths that are viable if you're playing as a particular class or origin with a personal story.

The series is also notoriously permissive, enabling players to find creative solutions both in story and combat. Virtually all objectives can be approached in a variety of manners, often in lateral fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you remembered something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a unorthodox way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is these creative systems that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games of all time. Now, the RPG community can get ready for another adventure in this legendary franchise.
