This Creepy Thriller

The Tammy Faye Biopic
In the conflict between God and Mammon, the winner is obvious for Mammon in Showalter's wonderfully garish true story about the fallen televangelist plus her lawbreaking partner. Andrew Garfield acts as the corrupt Bakker, who states early on, claiming divine approval for wealth. The couple begin profiting from the people's Christian beliefs. It's a riot of bad interior design, excessive cosmetics and insincerity, though Chastain succeeds to depict the real-life figure in a likable light. Next Tuesday, late night, on Film4
